What a Real Tarot Reading Should Feel Like

A genuine Tarot reading shouldn’t leave you anxious, dependent, or waiting for permission to live your life.

It should leave you clearer, confident and empowered for the future.

When someone sits with me, my focus isn’t on impressing them. It’s on helping them understand what forces are around them now, either hidden or known, quickly and honestly.

Tarot is a tool, not a performance.

A real reading sometimes feels like recognition, it's telling you what you already know inside. So it's like hearing your own thoughts reflected back to you with a certain calmness and most importantly, confirmation. You know that you can proceed on the path you are on, or what to get on, knowing it will be the right one.

Knowing, without the slightest doubt, that you won't be wasting your precious time travelling in a direction that's not going to benefit you.

If you leave a reading feeling fearful about the future, something has gone wrong. Very wrong. I recently wrote an article about a man who was told he was going to die. This caused an gargantuan amount of undue stress and worry for this young chap.

Tarot doesn’t take your power away. It hands it back to you.

The best readings don’t just predict — they reveal. They show patterns you’re repeating, influences you’ve underestimated, and choices you haven’t fully owned yet. From there, the future becomes flexible.

It places you at the helm of your life, business, career and relationships. A good tarot reading will prove to you that you are indeed the captain of your own ship. And the even better part? You are in full control of the ship's coordinates. It is only heading to a destination where you want it to dock.

Tarot and Empowerment

This phrase is often banded about in the same breath as tarot. But what does it actually mean?

Well, in my opinion, a good tarot reading should make you feel more independent from the reader. Rather like a counsellor, a tarot reader should be aiming to make their clients no longer need them.

I have spoken to people who have been to umpteen readings with the same reader. Nobody needs to do that. The reader should be ensuring the client doesn't need another reading.

That's tarot and empowerment for you. That’s how Tarot was meant to be used.
